4 things you should know about Vitalik Buterin

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the Ethereum network, is one of the prominent names in the cryptocurrency world and has a huge network of followers behind him.

Buterin entered the world of cryptocurrencies at an early age, and despite being only 28 years old, he’s very experienced in this field.

So, in order to get to know a little better about one of the founders of Ethereum, we givou you 4 fun facts about him.

Little genius

From early on it was clear that Vitalik Buterin had great aptitudes for mathematics, economics and programming.

His colleagues all agreed that he was a mathematical genius. In fact, he could add up three-digit numbers twice as fast as they could, so this reputation stuck with him.

As for the teachers, they saw him as a kind of “oddity” because of his intellectual capacity.

WoW

Vitalik Bute4in never showed much interest in extracurricular activities, unlike kids of his age. The only thing that interested him besides school was the game World of Warcraft (WoW), which he played selflessly between 2007 and 2010.

This game might inspired him to create Ethereum. After all, the fact that WoW took away an essential component of one of his favourite spells made him repulsed by centralised power, as, in a way, does the Ethereum network.

Valeri Buterin, 17, author

It was his father, a computer scientist, who first told him about Bitcoin. Vitalik, like any layman in the field, was suspicious. His mistrust, however, led him to want to learn more about the subject and as he absorbed knowledge, he became enthusiastic.

Later, on Bticoin forums, he met people connected to Bitcoin Weekly, a magazine for which he would write for five bitcoins per article ($3.50 at the exchange rate at the time). He was only 17 years old.

Ethereum foundation

In 2013, Buterin took six months off to travel around other countries. This allowed him to meet various crypto projects and Bitcoin developers. From these meetings, he realised that he could create an improved version of this cryptocurrency.

After working on this new version, he presented it and saw it being successively rejected. However, he was not affected, his tenacity remained and he eventually went ahead with the Ethereum network.
